Overall condition: Very Good. The inscription is legible and the memorial is cared for.

|
Description:
A freestanding granite tablet within a paved area. The oblong tablet is of polished black granite with the inscription and names incised in sentence case roman lettering, the inscription gilded and the names infilled in silver. The tablet is set into an oblong area of concrete foundation topped with granite slabs. Shortly after installation the tablet was supplemented by a pair of reconstituted stone planters and the area was enclosed with a low metal fence.

History and Conservation
|
c2014: The memorial was conceived by Mr Ross Berry-Hopkins and the idea was adopted by the Westhouses Residents Action Group who raised funding by events, donations and a grant from Blackwell Parish Council. The names were researched by Mr Ross Berry-Hopkins and Mr Tony Mellors.
c2018 The tablet was made by Cope Memorials, monumental masons of Riddings, Derbyshire
24th May, 2018: Application was made to Bolsover District Council for Planning Consent, reference 18/00292/FUL.
13th July, 2018: Planning Consent was issued.
10th November, 2018: The memorial was unveiled by Mrs Susan Oldfield, daughter of Sgt. Ronald Dicks (the WW2 casualty), and Mr. Alwyn King, nephew of William Rushton (a WW1 casualty). The service was conducted by Rev Gill Manley, Vicar of Tibshelf and Blackwell and the main dignitories present were: - Cllr. Mary Kerry, Mayor of Alfreton Town Council
- Cllr. Dexter Bullock, Leader of Blackwell Parish Council
- Mrs J Simpson, Clerk to Blackwell Parish Council
- Lt Col Mark Simpson TD VR, REME Reserves
- Lt Col David Dawber VRSM, Mercian Regiment
- Private Derby XXXII, the Mercian Regimental Mascot with his Ram Major and assistant
- Mr Keith Wilkinson, Royal British Legion, Royal Signals.
The service was also attended by RBL standard bearers, musicians from the Mercian Cadet Band, relatives of the fallen and a large group of local residents.
11th January, 2020: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson. It was in very good condition and cared for.
