| Description: A sandstone monument comprising an obelisk on a pedestal and three stepped base surrounded by a gravelled surface and iron railings with gate. The plain obelisk has inscriptions at the foot of the 6 and 3 o'clock faces. The square pedestal comprises a capstone with moulded edges on a plain die with inscriptions on the 6, 12 and 3 o'clock faces. The incised inscriptions are in upright capital block lettering coloured black. Glossary |

History
c1920: The land for the site of the memorial was a gift from the Duke of Devonshire.
c1920: The memorial was constructed by Mr George Platts of Stainsby with white Stancliffe Stone from Darley Dale.
14th November, 1920: The memorial was unveiled by Maj William Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington.
1940s: The WW2 inscription and names were added.
22nd September, 2015: The memorial was listed Grade II, Heritage List for England number 1429138.
29th March, 1974: The memorial lies within the Hardwick and Rowthorne Conservation Area designated on that date.
18th January 2012: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition and cared for. The inscription on the lower part of the 3 o'clock face of the pedestal had slight spalling, presumably from weathering.
