Description:
An addition to the lettering on a headstone on a family grave. The tall sandstone headstone has a moulded border, a pointed arch top with a depiction of a hand pointing upwards in relief in a crescent shaped panel at the head. The incised inscription is in upright capital roman lettering.

KILLED IN ACTION NEAR ARRAS, SEPT. 25TH. 1918 AGED 29 YEARS. "OH VALIANT DEAD TAKE COMFORT WHERE YE LIE, SO SWEET TO LIVE, MAGNIFICENT TO DIE." ALSO EMMA LANE, MOTHER OF THE ABOVE DIED OCT. 13TH. 1937 AGED 78 YEARS. WORTHY OF EVERLASTING REMEMBRANCE.

Pte Harold Lane is buried here so this is not a war memorial to him - it is his war grave, recognised as such by the CWGC. Pte Thomas Cuthbert Lane is buried at Vis-en-Artois Cemetery between Arras and Cambrai, therefore this is a war memorial to him.
