Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible.
|
Description:
An addition to the lettering on a headstone on a family grave. The tall sandstone headstone has a rounded top with stepped shoulders and a moulded border, recessed sides and a spray of foliage in relief in a segmental panel at the head. The incised inscription is in upright capital, mainly block, lettering. The headstone is accompanied by oblong kerbs but these have been displaced.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF WILLIAM EDMUND BARNES, WHO DIED AUGUST 20TH.1907, AGED 56 YEARS. "PEACE, PERFECT PEACE." ALSO OF 2ND LIEUT. EDMUND BARNES, ONLY SON OF THE ABOVE WHO WAS KILLED IN A FLYING ACCIDENT WHILE TRAINING TO SERVE HIS KING AND COUNTRY JANUARY 27TH. 1918, AGED 18 YEARS. EVER IN OUR THOUGHTS. ALSO OF ELIZA MARY BARNES, WHO DIED JULY 25TH. 1936, AGED 78 YEARS. AT REST.
