The former borough police station was on the site of the modern library.

Overall type: Board. Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible and the memorial is cared for.


Description:

A varnished wooden board with triangular top, stepped shoulders and a carved border containing a guilloche motif. A badge at the head represents the pomegranite emblem from the Chesterfield coat of arms, and the painted gilded inscription is in a decorative form of sentence case gothic lettering and the names are arranged in five columns.

The lettering style is extremely difficult to read and, although several researchers have attempted to transcribe them, some characters are still uncertain. Text marked [ ] has not been determined. Some regiments or corps have not been identified.

History and Conservation
c1945-1950: The memorial was installed in Chesterfield police station on the north side of New Beetwell St.

1947: Chesterfield Borough Police merged with Derbyshire Constabulary.

1976-1989: The former Chesterfield police station in New Beetwell St was demolished and the memorial was moved to the new police station on the south side of Beetwell St.

20th December, 2011: The memorial was surveyed by Eric Naden. It was in fair condition and cared for.
