Description:
A white marble sculpture of a uniformed soldier on a tall square white marble pedestal and sandstone base.
The soldier is standing in front of a tree stump and is wearing khaki service dress with a peaked cap, ammunition pouches and infantry puttees. He is holding a rifle with the stock resting on the ground.
The battered pedestal has a moulded cap and plinth and bears the inscription on the 6 o'clock face and the WW1 names in a single column on each of the other three faces. The pedestal surmounts a square two-stepped sandstone base. A reclining white marble tablet on a thin base has been added to the top step on the 6 o'clock face and bears a further inscription for WW2 with names in three columns.
A further white marble tablet on the 6 o'clock face of the steps bears the sculptor's name. Most lettering is in incised capitals infilled in black but that on the WW2 tablet is inlaid. The memorial is located within a circular flower bed which probably predates it.
