Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible.

Description:
An oaken lectern with cruciform feet supporting the central shaft with carved perforated buttresses and with a carved eagle at the head. The shaft bears three fixtures: a circular badge of Combined Operations forces with the emblems painted red; a brass plaque in the style of a shield on a wooden backboard and a carved ribbon bearing a motto. The plaque has a the outline of a cross with an inscription in the top left quarter and names of the fallen in the other quarters, all incised in upright capital block lettering coloured white.

History
|
Unknown date: The lectern is presumed to have been provided and located in the Ernest Bailey Grammar School in New Road.
22nd June, 1950: St Giles's Church was listed Grade II*, Heritage List for England number 1247838.
October 1980: St Giles's Church lies within the Old Matlock Conservation Area first designated in that month.
c1982: The school merged with a nearby one and vacated the New St premises which ultimately became the Derbyshire Records Office. It is presumed that the Bible was moved to St Giles's Church at about that time.
8th September 2016: The memorial was surveyed by Anne Branson and Roy Branson. It was in fair condition.
