An oblong brass plaque with a plain line border, a rubricated latin cross at the head, and an inscription incised in upright capital roman lettering coloured black.

TO THE GLORY OF GOD. AND IN EVER LOVING MEMORY OF 2ND LT. BERNARD GIBBS M.C. 6TH BATT. (ATTACHED 1ST) RIFLE BRIGADE. YOUNGEST SON OF G. R. GIBBS AND HIS WIFE ELIZABETH, NÉE WISE, WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION IN THE GREAT WAR DURING THE NIGHT OF JULY 6/7TH 1915. NEAR YPRES, FLANDERS. AGED 22 YRS. “BEST OF COMPANIONS. STAUNCHEST OF FRIENDS, AND BRAVEST OF OFFICERS.”

Unknown date (c1920?): The memorial was procured and installed in the church.
15th June, 1951: The church was listed Grade I, Heritage List for England number 1207715
November, 1968: Ashbourne Conservation Area was first designated; the church lies within it.
22nd December, 2008: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson. It was in fair condition and cared for.
26th September, 2019: The memorial was resurveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition and cared for.
