Description:

A sandstone wheel cross on a two step pedestal and three step base with inscriptions and names on bronze plaques. The cross has designs of interlaced strapwork on all faces and the pedestal comprises two plain oblong steps with slightly battered faces. Originally bronze plaques were inset in the 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock faces of the of the lower step of the pedestal, but a third was added to the 9 o'clock face after the second world war and a small aditional WW2 name was added to it later. A further plaque was added to the 6 o'clock face of the upper pedestal step to commemorate the centenary of world war one. The main inscriptions are in raised upright roman capital lettering but the centenary plaque is in sentence case lettering. The plain steps are surrounded by a chain supported on four metal posts. Patches on the surrounding tarmac identify where four earlier stone bollards were located.
