Location details:
The memorial is on the north side of Maine Drive about 25m east of its junction with Chaddesden Lane.

Overall type: Seat Overall condition: Very good. The inscription is legible and the memorial is cared for.


Description:

A black metal bench with end frames of shaped tubular metal with the seat formed from horizontal rails. The backrest is formed from sheet metal cut to portray a group of WW1 infantrymen crossing barbed wire with, to one side a trellis bearing the plaque and a spray of red poppies.

[* The end of WW1 is widely believed to have been on 11th November, 1918, however that was only the commencement of the cease fire. Alternative interpretations include 28th June, 1919, when the peace treaty (The Treaty of Versailles) was signed. Unfortunately the treaty did not take effect until all participant countries ratified it, which the USA did not do until 2nd July, 1921.]

History and Conservation
c2019: The seat was made by David Ogilvie Engineering, street, park and memorial furniture makers, of Kilmarnock, Scotland, and procured by the Chaddesden Historical Group.

June 2019: The bench was installed.

23rd November, 2019: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Anne Branson. It was in very good condition and well cared for.
