Description:
An addition to a sandstone headstone on a family grave. The headstone, originally upright but now laid on its back on the ground, has a pointed arch top and recessed sides. The sides of the arch have a narrow moulded and nailhead border and a crescent at the centre bearing a depiction of foliage on relief. The main face bears an inlaid inscription in different styles of upright, mainly capital lettering. The headstone is attached to an oblong base with a chamfered top and is accompanied by kerbs with a rounded top.

In Loving Memory of WILLIAM HENRY, THE BELOVED HUSBAND OF ELIZABETH BRICKNELL, WHO DIED NOVEMBER 20TH. 1918, AGED 27 YEARS, "LOVED BY ALL" ALSO OF CECIL FRANKLIN BRICKNELL, 32905, 1/5 SOUTH STAFFORDS, 46TH. DIVISION. BROTHER OF THE ABOVE AND HUSBAND OF GLADYS BRICKNELL, WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION NEAR ST. QUENTIN SEPTEMBER 29TH. 1918, AGED 22 YEARS. HE WHOM WE LOVED BUT COULD NOT SAVE FOR ENGLAND'S HONOUR THE PRICE HE PAID. THE BELOVED SONS OF J. H. & E. BRICKNELL. |

History and Conservation |
Unknown date: The memorial lies within the Breadsall Conservation Area.
13th April, 2021: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. The components were in fair condition but the grave was overgrown and the headstone displaced so is considered to be poor condition overall. |
