Description:
A temporary well dressing tableau made from vegetation pressed into clay held in a wooden frame and comprising a triptych with a shallow triangular pediment and with a frieze at the base. The three panels depicted a contiguous scene of swallows (blue birds) over the white cliffs of Dover with Vera Lynn in army uniform standing by a railway carriage - a song, singer and scenes which epitomise the cheerrful wartime spirit promoted by the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA). All of the images were in natural colours with blues and white dominating the background. The inscription was in black upright capital lettering on the pediment, and black sentence case lettering against the red ground of the frieze. The well dressing was displayed from 1st to 8th July 2018 and was subsequently dismantled.
