Location details:
The memorial is on a prominent raised paved platform at the eastern end of the church. The churchyard lies on the western side of the unnamed road, known by some as Marys Lane, leading to Grindsbrook Booth and Field Head. The road is a principal route to Kinder Scout, the Pennine Way and various countryside activities. Vehicular access is restricted and visitors should use the car park at Edale and walk from there.

Overall type: Cross Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible and the memorial is cared for.


Description:

A sandstone cross on a pedestal and two-stepped base, with bronze plaques on three faces of the pedestal. The latin cross has a slightly tapered shaft that flares out to a square foot, the 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock faces of which bears, in relief, a bound laurel wreath with the letters RIP at the centre. The pedestal has a moulded head with a winged cherub's head at each corner and bronze tablets let into recesses on three of its faces. The pedestal flares out to a low plinth and surmounts a square two-stepped base. The three plaques have a narrow raised border and raised inscriptions in upright mixed case roman lettering.

History and Conservation
17 April 1951: The Peak District National Park was designated. The memorial lies within it.

19 November 1990: The Edale Conservation Area was designated. The memorial lies within it.

2010: Repairs to the steps and paving were supported by a grant of £2367 from the War Memorials Trust, reference WM3051.

5th June, 2013: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition and cared for.
