Location details:
The display cabinet is normally located at the east end of the north aisle.
Type
Overall type: Book of remembrance. Overall condition: Good. The inscription is legible and the memorial is cared for.


Description:

A bound book of remembrance. The blue buckram cover is embossed on the front with the coat of arms of the former Chapel-en-le-Frith Rural District Council within an oblong block of swirls of stylised foliage. The titles are embossed in gilded upright capital roman lettering.
The opening page has the parish name in gilded upright capital roman lettering and an introduction in black upright capital roman calligraphy with the illuminated initial in black and red. The page is framed with an intricate design of foliage in reds, greens and gold.
The following seven pages contain the names of the fallen in red capital roman calligraphy, each page being headed with the caption "IN MEMORIUM" with a latin cross, followed by up to six names in alphabetical order, the seventh page ending with quotations.
Pages eight to 55 contain the names of those who served, in black upright capital roman calligraphy. These pages each bear up to eleven names in alphabetical order but grouped by the various villages within the parish.
The book is desplayed in an oaken cabinet with a hinged glazed lid and supported by four legs.

History and Conservation
1955-6: The book was compiled and produced.

30th September, 1956: The book was dedicated at a service in the Church of St Thomas Becket.

21st April.1967: The church was listed Grade II*, Heritage List for England number 1088062.

1971: The Chapel-en-le-Frith Conservation Area was first designated. The church lies within it.

4th April, 2019: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in good condition and cared for.
