Description:
A temporary Derbyshire well dressing display traditionally made from flowers and other vegetation pressed into clay held in a wooden frame but now often utilising stones, beads, fabric etc. The dressing comprised an oblong panel recessed within an arch, and contained within a wooden shelter. The oblong panel bore a depiction of the Union Flag overlaying a night-time silhouette of St Paul's Cathedral with searchlight beams. Superimposed on the flag were a golden capital letter V, the year and depictions of a dove of peace and a two-finger 'V for Victory' salute. To each side were vertical panels bearing various images (Spitfire aircraft, RAF roundals, lettering etc) in colour on a black ground. Spanning between these verticals was a gable-style arch bearing the inscription in white upright capital block lettering on a black ground.
